The process of payrolling benefits has been with us on a voluntary basis since 2016.  Since that time, employers have had the option of putting taxable benefits through the payroll OR completing the P11D. 

From the start of the tax year 2026/27, payrolling the benefits will become mandatory. For employers and bookkeeping professionals, there are implications that need to be addressed far in advance of April 2026.
