Hello,

I am looking to start my certifications and thinking to self study to start with. I have experience in book-keeping but I am sure there are topics that I still need to learn about. 

Can anyone advise if the Kaplan books have enough content to help me pass with a good score, or do I need to study other materials?

Also can anyone give a feedback of using training providers versus self study?

Hi

I had experience of bookkeeping and studied up to Level III using the Kaplan Books.  I completed the study books then worked through the revision books and did the online mocks.  I successfully completed all my exams.  I would say that self-study is fine as long as you have some bookkeeping knowledge.

How long did it take you to complete Level 2 and Level 3 please?

I seem to remember it took about 3.5 to 4 months.  Level II took about 6 weeks and Level III approx 2 to 2.5 months but I had to wait to take the final exam.  It really depends how much time you can spend studying and how quickly you take it in.  Bear in mind that the new syllabus to Level III also includes the old Level IV so it may take a little longer.

Course providers suggest 200 + hours of study to complete both levels under the new syllabus but presumably this is with no previous experience.

I wasn't aware of the syllabus change, maybe I should be prepared for about 6 months realistically to complete Level 2 and 3. And yes I think you are right it depends on the time that I have to put in the study.
