VAT Reconciliation - help!!

Hello

I'm new around here and have looked through different post but can't seem to find the answer i am looking for Frown

I have just taken over our companies books and have come across an issue with reconciling the VAT.

So, at year end (mar) I reconciled the VAT account as normal and thinks were all ok. It wasn't until I then looked back into the VAT account afterwards to find that it states there are still over 400 unreconciled transactions even though we reconiled! I have contacted my accountant who is not too sure why this may be as we reconciled the account as normal and it was all fine - It's only when I pulled up the summary after the year end that i real;ised it still shows these unreconciled items. Do you think this is a software issue or am I completely missing something?!

Any help would be much appreciated

Thank you

Hi Emma,

I am assuming you use Sage?

When you go to do the Vat return it states there are xxx items in this period and xxx unreconciled - and then asks do you want to include the unreconciled 'yes' or 'no'?
It sounds like the unreconciled items have never been reconciled as there should not be a lot of unreconciled items anyway as this usually arises when the vat return has been done for a particular period then you get late purchase invoices etc which should have been included but now you would have to include them in the next return.

Another thing to check is that a previous return has actually been reconciled - go to 'company' then 'manage vat' and this will list all the vat returns reconciled - you will then be able to see if there are any missing.

Also, if you go to the 'financials' you will be able see which items have not been reconciled - any items with an N in the vat column means they have not been reconciled.

Hope this has been some help to you - bit of a nightmare when something like this happens.

Fantastic, Thank you Marilyn for your help much appreciated Laughing

I am looking at the accounts again tomorrow so fingers crossed something comes to light! I thought it may probably be down to having previous unreconciled items!!!

Why couldn't it have been a software issue!!

Thanks again!
