New AICB (Comp): Advice Needed, if you please kind Sirs and Madams

Hi there,

I am a newbie AICB (Comp) and have a wish to exploit this status by way of gainful employment and I would be grateful for some advice.  I am not sure whether I wish to set myself up as a bookkeeper and indeed, if my status - such as it is, warrants my doing so.  I could well be happy, indeed, doing bookkeeping/accounts assisting work in an existing organisation.  It is also an idea, toward the end of being a sole bookkeeper, to see if there are any sole bookkeepers or small practices who have surplus work and which, instead of turning a potential client away, would be willing to re-direct them in my direction.  I hasten to add that I obviously do not wish to move in on anybody's territory.  I would also add that, in the first instance, were I to go about working as a sole bookkeeper or one working in concert with one or more other bookkeepers, this would be for a year.  First, a year to see how things develop, but also just a year, as I may opt to undertake the (academic) course I have a quiet interest/yearning to do.  I would, if that were to transpire - my doing a course, be interested in the possibility of working to one or two clients in order to help fund my courses whilst doing it (part-time).

I am sorry for making a complex set of queries, but I wish to be open and honest as to where I see myself.

Any advice provided would be gratefully received.  In time, I would hope that I am learned enough in this new trade to me, to be able to pass on, or to offer, any advice I am able to.

With many thanks,

faithfully,

Benjamin Black

I hope that my first message, in this region, was not too off-putting.  Nothing but a simple request for helpful advice intended.
