Hi fellow bookkeepers,

Just thought I would drop by and say hi. I recently became a Member and PM.Dip and have received my Practice Licence. My next step will be the self assessment taxation exam.

As i have previously been employed as an Accoiunts Manager / Bookkeeper, self employment will be a whole new ball game for me.

I would love to hear how other members found the first few months in practice. Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Hi Keith

A little bit like your situation,  I am a newbie MICB ex Account Manager who has recently passed L3 exams and am currently halfway through the payroll course befiore I tackle SAT. My practice licence starts on 1 June so I have a little time to go yet but, like you, would also be grateful for any guidance from our Community!

In addition to studying I have been trying to ready myself the best I can by setting up a structure for the practice, including a website and a little networking, which is a little scary but has to be done... I am hoping it becomes easier and maybe even fun with a little practice!?

More than happy to help you in any way I can as we both start our bookkeeping adventures.

Hi Richard,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, be good to maybe bounce ideas. Bit daunting isn't it?

How did your networking go, how did you go about it? Also, did you design your own website?

 Hi Keith
Networking doesn't come easily to me and I find it all daunting but it has to be done so I hope I learn to like it quickly! We will see! I am starting out slowly with attending a few ICB group webinars and local small business forums/start-up sites.... not too bad yet but it is early days!
As for my website, I have a family friend designing a bespoke logo/brand for me and then I have a web builder who will put it together for me; I will gladly share her contact details with you if you like? I hope she will be well suited as she has designed a couple of sites for bookkeepers, one of these happening to be one of the Ideal Schoools ambassador's...

Hi Richard,

It is most definitely a bit daunting, but I am sure that we will get there. There are a lot of fellow ICB members who have done it!

Yes, I would appreciate contact details of your web designer.

Have a good day,

Keith
