Hi,

After recently completing my self-assessment exam I now have my first self-assessment client for 20/21 year.  As this is my first client though I'm not sure how I go about the process.  Do I need to set up the self-assessment for agents to my account?  I am only completing and submitting thier return so I don't need to have authorisation to speak to HMRC on thier behalf.  I wasn't sure if i still need the self-assessment for agents even if it's just for submitting returns.  Any advice on the process would be greatly received.

Thanks

Hi Tracy,

You will need an agent account with Self Assessments on the account. You wont need a 64-8 in place but your agent credetials would be required to file the assessments even with software.

If your not using software you will need to add the client into your agent self assessment portal so you can complete the return for them.

Hope this helps.

Could I also ask, and I hope i'm not coming across as silly asking this...but full payment is usually asked for up front before doing the return am I right?

Thanks
