Hi everybody,

If an employee lives in Scotland/Wales do you automatically use scottish/welsh prefixed tax code  or you are waiting for comfirmation from HMRC ?

Hi,

You should only operate a tax code with a C or S prefix if it comes from a P45 or an instruction from HMRC.

If based on starter checklist, you have to apply the tax code without the C or S prefix.

 Hi Kevin,

Thank you for reply. It confused me as in the mock they use automatically C or S prefixes and the scenario does not say anything about neither p45 nor instructed by HMRC.

Kind Regards,

Robert

In the mock or the real exam you apply S or C prefix if empoyee's address is in Wales or Scotland. I also made this mistake in the first mock bacause I thought I need to have clear instructions from HMRC.
