Dear All,

I have applied for practice licence as a sole trader and waiting for it. My question is how much I need to pay for registration with ICO for GDPR.

Do I need to register before I get licence or after ?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you very much.

Hi there,

We'd recommend you register with the ICO when you have your Practice Licence and are about to start trading.

There's some more information on our website here: https://www.bookkeepers.org.uk/resources/running-a-practice/regulation/gdpr

The cost of your data protection fee depends on your size and turnover. There are three tiers of fee ranging from £40 and £2,900, but for most organisations it will be £40 or £60. The payment is always VAT:nil

Some organisations only pay £40 regardless of their size and turnover. These are:

  • Charities;
  • small occupational pension schemes.

You can use ICO's fee-assessment tool to find out how much you will need to pay.

Not sure if you need to pay a fee to the ICO?

Take quick self-assessment to find out.

Not sure if you need to appoint a data protection officer?

Take quick self-assessment to find out.

Thank you very much for your reply Ami.

Have a good day.

Kind regards,

Mehul Dave
