MTD - anyone finding registration confusing...!?

I have now "hit the wall" so can anyone out there help me with MTD?

I have registered my new Agent Services Account OK with HMRC, that was actually quite easy but I am now stressing over how to become an authorised agent for my clients to submit their VAT Returns via my Quickbooks Online platform.

I have spoken to both Quickbooks support and HMRC and between them I am even more confused and everywhere I try leads to the "wall".

So my question is has anyone got over the wall and can come to my aid?

Thanks,

Tony Jackson - Turnpike Business Services

Hi Tony,

Sorry to hear you're having issues with this. I've managed to get over the wall and successfully submit MTD VAT returns for a client so I'm hoping I can help you over it too!

Quickbooks recently hosted an MTD day and they had a very comprehensive guide on how to sign up with HMRC, assign clients, switch on MTD in QBO and file, so it may worth a look at their on demand webinar from the day, link below:

https://quickbooks.intuit.com/uk/accountants/mtd/

If you are initially looking to sign clients up and do not already have a VAT agent account this will be your first port of call. If you are on your old account and already have clients, you will need to 'link' your existing clients with your new agent account and you will then be able to use your new User ID and password in QBO to submit.

Alos be aware that your clients need to be eligible for the pilot if you plan to sign up early and you need to also sign them up and receive confirmation from HMRC before you switch on MTD in QBO as this can't be switched off.

Kind Regards,

Jaye

BIG announcement...I am now OVER the wall!

It wasn't easy or straight forward I can tell you but I had some great words of advice from Jaye at Exe Bookkeeping. Jaye has been amazing and made some extremely useful comments that helped me in my discussions with Quickbooks and HMRC. Thanks also to Ami at ICB for your response, also very helpful.

Looking back I think alot of my issues were that I had only ever submitted VAT returns via the HMRC portal and not direct through Quickbooks, so this fact created more work.....and confusion!

I now need to get all my other clients to sign up for MTD and link them to my Agent Services Account after gaining their authority.....sounds easy doesn't it, watch this space!
