I would say generally no accounting software that is commercially widely available is targeted only to a particular industry only, they would not survive. So unless you find a piece of software specifically designed by someone for framers (note, you may not get the support/updates etc as regularly as with more commercially available software) most popular accountancy packages will do just fine, providing it is set-up correctly.

I would use what works for the client (if you intend giving them access), ie Xero for ease of use, or if you don't intend for them to have access use what you are comfortable/familiar with.

Hi,

I live in a farming area and apparently this is the software most commonly used by farms.

https://farmplan.co.uk/business-accounts/accounts/

Although I personally have not used it I am assured by the farmers who do use it that it is excellent.

 Hi Jenny

I did a more detailed answer but it seems not to have uploaded so in brief

KeyPrime by Landmark Systems Ltd

Sum-it

Farmplan has already been mentioned.

Over last 30 years I have used them all.  Currently use LandmarkSystems KeyPrime programme and Quickbooks Online and Xero.  I find QBO and Xero are OK if good internet and basic costing and reporting required.  Am sticking with KeyPrime (or KeyPrimeIntro for simpler businesses) depending on client preference and reporting/costing requirements.

Normally major update once a year and minor updates and fixes in between if needed - free if on software support which also includes free telephone helpline during business hours.

Best of Luck

Sandra

Hello all!  Sorry for resurrecting an old post but I am taking on farm clients who use Farmplan which I have worked with before.  I'm researching Sum-It and Xero because Farmplan is so darn expensive!  Any further experiences please?

Hi Jenny, I worked for Farmplan for 21 years so feel well advised in my reply - left and now using Farmplan and Xero so have a comparison. I would say it 100% depends on the level of analysis you require and your internet speed and reliability. We have two farm business on Farmplan Busines manager, paper free office and all the sales/purchases/ bank payments and bank receipts transactions are linked to the documents in Business Manager. Taken a bit of time to setup and get into a routine but it works well. We have a butchery and I use the searchcode level of analysis to keep a track on what products have been bought and sold along with enterprise to track the whole unit. The pub I do on Xero (no projects setup) using FOC Hubdoc for the documents and again this works well too. Had never used it until June but I have found it easy to pick up and Google cn answer anything I dont know! Gill
