Cornwall Branch Meetings

Hi Everyone

On Thursday 19th September the 'New' Cornwall Branch had its first meeting - bit sparse on attendees but out of little acorns......

Topics discussed revolved around how to find clients, how much to charge for specific tasks, whether to go for hourly rates or fixed rates, negative attitudes of accountants to bookkeepers, training providers, promoting one's business/advertising/social media.

In order to encourage more to attend would holding future meetings during the day, say lunchtime 12 noon to 2pm be preferable? Especially as winter draws in and it gets darker earlier.

The venue this time was Stuart House in the centre of Liskeard. With the meeting taking place in the cafe area - plenty of seating and tables and access to refreshments. The room was very quiet with no background noise or hubbub of other people talking so easy to hear what was being discussed.

Is Liskeard a good location? Based on number of ICB Members Liskeard has by far the most of any Cornish town/city - eg more than Truro, Camborne, Newquay, St Austell. But would say a venue at Roche be a more central venue?

Look forward to Members views and a BIG thankyou to those who came along and supported the first meeting. Hope to see more next time - which will be around the first week of November. Anybody got any prefered days/dates?

Cheers

Hi Povl

A big thanks to you for chairing the meeting last night.

Yes, members were sparse but it was still very informative.

Will look forward to the next meeting and hopefully meet more bookkeepers both students and professionals.

Thanks again Povl.

Hi Povl and Sue,

I moved to Saltash in the last month ago - could you let me know where things are up to with the Cornwall Branch.

Thanks,

Hi!

I'm delighted to discover (through browsing through the ICB website) that there is a Cornish branch contingent!  I am very new to this industry and currently studying with the aim of self-employment at the end of it. I live in Camelford so Liskeard is relatively close for me (in Cornish terms). I do have two small children and a husband who works away a lot of the time so evenings maybe a little tricky so from my point of view, school hours would suit me perfectly!

In the meantime, please let me know when you next intend to hold a meeting and I will try my upmost to attend.

Thanks in anticipation of meeting you and others.  Kind regards, Jo

I know this is an old thread but I wondered if anything was happening in Cornwall still?  I am a new student and would like to meet with others in the County

 Hi Jen,

I would also be interested in meeting ICB members in the local vicinity if anyone else would like to arrange the meeting as the nearest one at the moment is Bristol.

Hello again,

I'm going to start a new thread for Devon & Cornwall, as there are no branch chairs west of Somerset on the ICB website now.

Please respond to that thread to keep up to date.

Thanks,

Fiona
