There are lots of views but little replies, why not get in touch and be part of our new group in Northern Ireland to help you in your career, identify needs, and hopefully do something to address them, the next meeting will be in July, hopefully to coincide with Gary Carter coming over for the regional seminar, we would love to have you involved

Hi everyone,

I am from the Armagh Area and I have recently achieved my AICB membership when I got my ICB Level 2 Computerised Bookkeeping.  I am currently doing my Level 3 Manual, and also have Level 3 Computerised, Diploma in Payroll Management and Diploma in Self-assessment to do.

I would like to work for someone for a few years to gain experience before I could even consider going out on my own.  The problem I have is, every employer out there is looking for someone with experience.

I can't get experience if I can't get a job!

Has anyone else went through this or did you all set up your own business when you qualified?

I'm thinking of moving to England as there doesn't seem to be any opportunities over here and I don't feel ready to start upon my own as I have no actual work-place experience in bookkeeping.

I even offered to work for a company for 3 months for nothing to gain experience, and they still told me they needed someone with experience, telling me my studies were good, but they were no where near what it's like in real life.

I would love to hear other peoples opinions on this if I could.  Thanks everyone!

Ps.  This is the 1st time I've seen the N. Ireland part of the ICB.  I normally go to the latest topic's.  It's nice to see people from the same area on the ICB as well.

That was last July, only a few of us actually did go to the meeting, there seems to be a lot more interest at the minute, hopefully we will get something sorted soon when I get a bit of free time, i'll keep you posted.

It's nice to hear from you Bazza, things are difficult but improving, I admit it's hard to get started. I would like to meet up with the past and new members of the group soon to discuss things. Send me an email to localbusinessservice@hotmail.co.uk so I can contact you, we will get something sorted very soon to get together so all the new members can get to know each other and we can then start to look at the problems everyone is having.

Hi Karla,

Welcome to ICB and I hope your exam went well. We have been working very hard this year to grow our branch network and we are now rapidly expanding across the UK.

We hope to relaunch our branch in Northern Ireland in the near future and an invite will find its way to your inbox as soon as a date has been fixed. Branch meetings are organised by members for members and are a good place to network, whilst discussing bookkeeping matters.

In the meantime, keep up to date  and see what other bookkeepers have been getting up to in our monthly newsletter. Click HERE to have a read.

Have a good day.
