Hi Everyone
Good idea - lets get talking!
I am a working mum of 40 something, struggling to manage a home, a business, a husband, kids and a dog - which one do you think causes me the most stress?
I am based in Dorset, between Salisbury(Wiltshire) and Ringwood (Hampshire), giving me good access to all 3 counties.
My business started in 2004 when a local accountant encouraged me to set up on my own, and I haven't look back since.
I have at times had 2 employees, but currently have 1 who has been with me for 3 years, and am hoping to employ another by the end of this year.
Became an Associate due to my work experience and prior qualifications, but am now studing Level 3 to become a full member.
Looking forward to conversing with all you other members out there.

Hi Everyone
My name is Ruth and, even though I started this course last May, I am only just revising for my level one. I am very nervous and hope that I will have done enough.
I am 42, married and have 4 wonderful kids. I have always been interested in accounting and would love to take this up as a business from home if I ever qualify. At this rate, I could be up for retirement first. Lol
Anyway, I've now broken the ice and need to get back to revision. Ttfn

Hi Everyone
I am Jon 44 in the summer and living in Leicester have been here for 9 years now but originally a North London lad. Live here with my civil partner and am currently a Student member of the ICB. I will be taking my exams to achieve Affiliate status at end of May 2011.
My back ground is a mixture of Administation and Genealogy, I am a qualified Genealogist and have been for 15 years now. I decided to add a new string to my bow and take the exams to be a bookkeeper as I have always been interested in figures etc.
I am doing the ICB course which is ran by the Home Learning College and I look forward to meeting local bookkeepers both student or qualified to offer mutual support
thats all for now folks look forward to chatting on here

Hi! I'm considering taking a ICB level 2 course. I've been doing my limited company accounts for about five years and it has been a steep learning curve. I'm just wondering if the ICB rules would preclude me from continuing to do the accounts. I know they prevent me from doing so as an agent for someone else but this is for myself as the director of a close company. If I am precluded, I'll have to put it off until I wind up the company (as it has ceased to make money).

This is a popular topic, so I thought " why not join the fun ?". I am working hard to develop my own Practice in Cornwall. Previously I worked for many years in finance departments of large organisations, working as a self employed bookkeeper for small businesses is a whole new world. A challenge but enjoyable. Before I set up I did n't realise the effort neeed to market services. I also thought that small businesses would need and want management accounting, but that seems to be a lower priority than reducing the tax take.
I would welcome feed back on my website if anyone has time.

Best regards to everyone.

Hi,
I'm Becky and I live in Exeter, Devon. I have a 19 month old daughter and I'm currently trying to sit the ICB exams (around nap times) as quickly as possible as a 'refresher' as I am also AAT qualified.
I previously worked as an Accounts Assistant at a small accountancy firm for just over 3 years, however took a break from the financial world after being made redunant from another role as a Commercial Assistant. Following a second redundancy (from customer services - never again!!), I am now working as a part-time employed bookkeeper for six businesses. My goal is to complete the ICB exams and then set up as self-employed, undertaking bookkeeping in and around my part-time work. I'm currently in discussions with the old accountancy firm I used to work for to set up a referral system.
Would be lovely to meet fellow bookkeepers in my area, I was most disappointed at not being able to go to the most recent area meeting due to a lack of babysitter. Hopefully I will make it next time!
Kind Regards,
Becky
